Golden Moment: ISU Figure Skating Hits 1 Million Followers as Milano Cortina 2026 engagement soars
11 Feb 2026
The International Skating Union (ISU) has surpassed one million followers across its Figure Skating channels on Instagram and Facebook (Meta), marking a major digital milestone as excitement builds around skating events at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. This achievement highlights the sport’s accelerating global momentum and its deepening connection with fans worldwide across digital platforms.

The landmark moment came just hours after Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry (FRA) skated into a slender lead in the Ice Dance Rhythm Dance competition, as global excitement around Olympic figure skating translated instantly into record-breaking social engagement. The ISU’s global Instagram channel crossed the 500,000-follower mark during the opening stages of competition, pushing combined Meta followers beyond seven figures soon after.

As skaters took to the ice in Milan, fans around the world responded in force. Over the first weekend of Olympic competition alone, ISU Figure Skating channels generated more than 1.5 million engagements, 40 million video views, and 62 million impressions. The numbers underscore the ISU’s strategy of focusing on short-form video content to connect with its global fanbase.
ISU Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, Jiao Li, said: “Reaching 1 million fans on our Figure Skating Facebook and Instagram channels is truly a milestone created by our fans. This achievement belongs to the global Figure Skating community who celebrate the artistry, beauty and precision of the sport with us every day. We are deeply grateful for your passion and support, and we look forward to continuing to grow together - celebrating the incredible journey of our sport and, most importantly, the amazing athletes who inspire us all’.
The digital surge has extended beyond Figure Skating. On the Speed Skating oval, fans have witnessed three Olympic records in the opening three competitions at Milano Cortina 2026. The intensity and power of the sport have also driven significant online growth, with ISU Speed Skating channels on Instagram and Facebook approaching 200,000 combined followers.
