Two-time Olympic Champion Jens van ‘t Wout of the Netherlands, pictured above, is in action once more in the Men’s 500m, chasing a third medal at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 on Wednesday. More medals are at stake in the Women’s 3000m relay.
Day five of the Olympic Short Track competition at the Milano Ice Skating Arena kicks off with the Men’s 500m quarter-finals at 20.15 local time. Here’s what to expect…
Van ‘t Wout goes for the triple as Dandjinou still waits for a medal
- Two-time Olympic Champion Jens van ‘t Wout (NED) goes for the triple in Milan after his success in the 1000m and 1500m.
- Reigning 500m Olympic Champion Liu Shaoang (CHN) will fight for his medal chance.
- Four-time ISU World Champion William Dandjinou (CAN) is still waiting for his first individual medal after missing out in the 1000m and 1500m.
- The 2022 Olympic 500m bronze medalist Steven Dubois (CAN) is in the mix as well.

More medal chances for Netherlands, Italy, Korea and Canada in Women’s 3000m Relay
- The Netherlands, Italy, Korea and Canada will race for the medals in the Women’s 3000m Relay.
- The Netherlands top the world ranking and can rely on two-time Olympic Champions Xandra Velzeboer and Jens van ‘t Wout.
- The Republic of Korea, second in the world ranking, clocked the fastest time in the semi-final.
- Mixed Relay Olympic Champion Italy has another medal chance with the legendary Arianna Fontana.
- Team Canada is targeting their first Short Track gold in Milan.

- Twenty Men representing 13 NOCs compete in the 500m quarter-finals and the first and second placed skaters from each race, plus the two third placed skaters with the best times, qualify for the semis.
- The Men’s 500m world record is 39.505s and the Olympic record is 39.584s, both established in 2018 and held by Wu Dajing (CHN).
- Eight teams compete in the Women’s 3000m Relay finals A and B.
- The world record in the Women’s 3000m Relay is 4:02.809 and the Olympic record is 4:03.409. Both are held by the Netherlands.
