He became interested in the sport after watching the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin on television. "I saw speed skaters racing and battling each other at incredible speeds. I thought it was the coolest sport I had ever seen, so I decided to start inline speed skating first. I eventually transitioned to ice as there is no Olympics for inline speed skating."
