04 Apr 2026

With the ISU Synchronised Skating World Championships 2026 coming up soon, Katharina and Linda from Colibris Vienna have shared their city guide to help you explore Salzburg during the World Championships weekend!

WHAT TO DO?

The "I feel like I'm in a movie" walk

Start in the magical Mirabell Gardens. You can expect:

  • Perfect flower beds
  • Statues dramatically posing for your Instagram
  • The adorable Zwergerlgarten, a garden full of slightly chaotic dwarf statues

This is the place where you’ll say “Oh wow.. Salzburg is actually ridiculously pretty.”

Then continue walking through Linzergasse, a charming street with cute shops, cafes, and the feeling that you somehow stepped into a cozy European movie scene.

** Pro Tip : If you suddenly crave coffee and cake, you're doing Salzburg Correctly!

The legendary sunset mission

Start at Kapuzinerberg and hike up from Linzergasse. Why? Becaues the sunset view over Salzburg is chef’s kiss! But here’s the real secret formula:

1. Buy pizza in the city

2. Carry it up the mountain like a champion

3. Eat it at sunset with the entire city below you

Congratulations! You’ve unlocked peak Salzburg Experience!

If you feel like doing something active – like hiking

Take an adventure up Gaiberg. It’s basically a peaceful nature escape, a scenic hike with insane views when reaching the top and it’’ be the perfect plan to get some steps and altitude in you’ll see the Alps, Salzburg from above, and possibly some cows judging your hiking speed.

Summer survival mode

When it gets hot, escape to Fuschlsee. Bring picnic snacks, a Towel and sunglasses. Then crystal clear water, mountains around you and the feeling that life is good will welcome you.

The perfect day trip

If you want to explore beyond the city, head to either:

  • St. Wolfgang: A dreamy lakeside village that looks suspiciously like a painting
  • Bad Ischl: A charming spa town famous or its imperial history and amazing pastries

A fun fact about places above is that the emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria loved spending his summers there. If an emperor approved it, it could be a very decent day trip!
