Love Is in the Air: Miura & Kihara Announce Their Engagement

Love is in the air, or rather, on the ice: Japan’s Olympic Pair Skating Champions Riku Miura & Ryuichi Kihara have announced their engagement.

“We’re engaged,” “RikuRyu” wrote on Instagram.

“Through both the happy times and the difficult ones, we’ve shared so many moments together, supporting each other every step of the way.

“Over time, we became irreplaceable parts of each other’s lives—someone neither of us could imagine life without.

“We’re truly happy to finally be able to share this news with all of you.”

Since teaming up in 2019, Miura, 24, and Kihara, who celebrated his 34th birthday on August 22, have made figure skating history more than once.

They became the first Japanese pair skaters to win the ISU World Championships, the ISU Four Continents Championships and the ISU Grand Prix Final. They crowned their remarkable competitive career by claiming a historic Olympic gold medal at Milano Cortina 2026.

Miura & Kihara officially retired from competition in April 2026. They are now producing their own ice shows and working to further develop pair skating in Japan.

For years, fans wondered whether the skaters were also a couple off the ice, but Miura and Kihara always kept their personal lives private.

“As we begin this new chapter, we’ll continue to support each other and move forward together, one step at a time, while always staying true to who we are,” they said in their Instagram post.
